News from IGP in 2017

Sven Nelander has together with the co-applicants Christer Betsholtz and Bengt Westermark at IGP, and Philip Gerlee and Rebecka Jörnsten at University of Gothenburg, been granted SEK 30 million from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF).

Sonja Hutter and Mohanraj Ramachandran have received two-year post doc positions from the Swedish Childhood Cancer Foundation.

The Swedish Cancer Society has granted funding of approximately SEK 31 million in total to eleven IGP researchers.

Diana Spiegelberg, researcher at IGP, was recently selected as promising young researcher by Lions Cancerforskningsfond.

IGP PhD student Verónica Rendo has been selected as the winner of this year’s mentorship program Mentor4Research.

Marcel den Hoed is co-applicant in a project that was recently awarded a grant from the American NIH. The project will address the link between obesity and cardiometabolic complications and is a collaboration between researchers from USA, UK and Sweden.

The Swedish Pharmaceutical Society’s Young Scientist Award has been awarded Verónica Rendo, PhD student at IGP. She was awared for her poster that was presented at Young Scientists Day.

Rasel Al-Amin, PhD student at IGP, has been awarded a prize for best poster presentation at the conference 8th Alpbach Workshop on Affinity Proteomics.

The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research has decided to support Sven Nelander with a grant of 30 million SEK.

On 27 January, Professor Marcia McNutt was conferred an honorary doctorate from the Medical and Pharmaceutical Faculties. IGP and Karin Forsberg Nilsson hosted her visit in Uppsala, which also included an honorary doctorate lecture in the Rudbeck Hall on 26 January.

At the French-Swedish research association’s jubilee seminar on 1 December Argyris Spyrou, PhD student at IGP, was awarded the French-Swedish Prize for Young Researchers 2017.

The foundation Mats Paulssons stiftelse has decided to continue supporting a collaboration in the cancer area between the universities in Uppsala and Lund. The support will also increase from one to two million SEK.

Lars Forsberg, Caroline Gallant and Ulf Landegren have been awarded research grants in the field of natural and engineering sciences.

The Childhood Diabetes Foundation Johnny Ludvigsson prize for young researchers has been awarded Oskar Skog at IGP for his research on the etiology of type 1 diabetes.

The Swedish Cancer Society has selected Lena Claesson-Welsh as ‘Cancer Researcher of the Year’ 2017. The award includes a generous grant from Swedish Cancer Society, and that the group’s research is highlighted in different ways.

The Foundation Ragnar Söderbergs stiftelse has selected Kaska Koltwska as one of five Ragnar Söderberg fellows in medicine.

Christer Betsholtz is awarded NOK 2 million for his groundbreaking research on how blood vessels are formed and function.

The Swedish Cancer Society has decided to award Sven Nelander a Senior Investigator Award, which means funding of a six-year position.

Three IGP researchers have been awarded research grants from the Swedish Research Council in the field of medicine and health.

IGP researcher Mohamed Altai has been awarded a post doc fellowship from the Swedish Society for Medical Research.

The Childhood Cancer Foundation has decided to support Karin Forsberg Nilsson, Ulla Martinsson, Sven Nelander and Fredrik Swartling with research grants.

The foundation Kjell och Märta Beijers Stiftelse has decided to support Lars Forsberg and Katie Bentley with research grants of 2 million SEK each.

Karin Forsberg Nilsson is awarded a grant that covers sequencing reagent costs at NGI up to 4 060 000 SEK. The grant is part of SciLifeLab’s National Sequencing Projects initiative.  

The Swedish Research Council has awarded Ulf Landegren a Proof of Concept grant of SEK 1.2 million.

SensUs is a yearly international student competition on sensors for health. At this year’s competition, the Uppsala University team won the Creativity Award.

Gunilla Enblad has received Region Uppsala’s research prize for 2016.

The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation as decided to select IGP researcher Kaska Koltowska as Wallenberg Academy Fellow.
